If you’re reading this article, you are not happy. You are not fully fulfilled or content with at least one area of our life. I’m sure you’ve probably read all sorts of other articles giving you all sorts of hacks, tips, and tricks on how to become more content.
Those articles are all too common on the internet, but unfortunately most of them are just feel-good articles. They give you an emotional sugar high. When you eat a piece of candy, you get a nice buzz.
You feel a little bit of a rush, but after a while you get hungry again so you eat another piece of candy. This spikes up and down, up and down. That’s what those articles do.
Lay claim to this power to adapt. This is your SUPER POWER!
Let me get to the heart of the matter. You’re not happy. You’re not fulfilled. You don’t feel complete because you choose to be. I know that’s not the kind of thing you’ve probably heard before.
That’s definitely not the kind of thing you want to hear, but you need to hear it. You have to understand that your life is a choice. Whatever you’re struggling with now is a result of choice you made in the past.
The law of cause and effect will never ever be repealed. It’s true in the past. It’s true right now. It’s going to be true long into the future. Whatever mental state, emotional issues, or personal hellhole you’re in, it’s because of a decision you made in the past.
Your current life is the effect and your decisions are the cause. Where do these decisions come from? That’s right. They come from your thought patterns. They come from how you choose to think. Let me clue you in on a secret.
Human beings are the most adaptable animals on the planet. We really are because regardless of where you put a human being, that human being will adapt.
Put that person in place with a lot of food, that person will adapt. Put that person in a place where everybody hates him and tries to kill him, that person will adapt.
Lay claim to this power to adapt. You’re feeling miserable and discontented precisely because you have turned a blind eye to this strong personal power. This is your super power.
Along the way, you have become a victim of your own standard and the problem is, you’ve forgotten about the fact that you chose that standard. Unhappiness or a lack of contentment flows from a choice.
You can’t be miserable if you did not have expectations. Come up with the right ones. Choose to adapt to your circumstances. Claim that power. Claim that choice. How? It’s very simple. Focus on what you can control and scale up.
I understand, it seems that your life is one giant disaster. I get that, but please understand that it’s not a complete and totally bleak landscape. There are areas there where you’re doing reasonably well.
Usually, these areas line up to the areas you can control. Focus on them. See if you can improve them. See if you can broaden them. See if you can expand your area of control and then from there, you can scale up.
You can deal with other parts of your life that are more problematic or frustrating. Do you see how this works? Focus on what you can control. Don’t just jump into the conclusion that somehow, someway you’re incapable of being happy.
